Overview of ElanexPSEUDO™

Elanex provides pseudo-translation services to clients as a means of testing the 'localization readiness' of source files in advance of or in parallel with the actual translation step.  We call this technology ElanexPSEUDO™. Our pseudo-translation service is based on a very simple idea that is very powerful in its implementation because it inevitably saves time and costs for our clients who utilize the service.

  • Pseudo-translation is a process of identifying potential problems upfront with source files that may prevent translation from being completed successfully or in a timely manner, thus making the entire process more expensive
  • By identifying these potential problems in advance using ElanexPSEUDO, client developers can make modifications prior to beginning translation, saving both time and money on the actual translation and implementation process
  • ElanexPSEUDO's methodology uses Elanex software to simulate all the effects of actual translation, enabling seven different common problem types to be identified quickly and easily
  • By using ElanexPSEUDO, we can provide invaluable reporting to client developers to properly 'internationalize' the software from the beginning, avoiding problems that are all too often dealt with after completion of translation

Seven potential 'issue areas' tested by ElanexPSEUDO

Issue Area Description of how ElanexPSEUDO deals with potential problems
Translatables Ensures that all translatable strings have been externalized in resource files and/or tagged so that they can be extracted with filters
Character sets Ensures that the software supports and displays all necessary character sets correctly
Regional settings Ensures that regional settings (including time and date formats) have not been hard-coded in the source files
Concatenations Ensures that there are not too many concatenations that may cause problems later for translators
Over-externalizing Ensures that non-translatable strings are not included with the extracted text for translation
Expansion Ensures that dialog boxes and forms allow for adequate text expansion, either with existing sizing or through dynamic resizing
Image text Identifies text that is hard-coded into images that will require extra time for correct localization
