Elanex has a more sophisticated approach to translation than traditional translation agencies: we have designed our workflow from the ground up to reduce unnecessary human labor, and to utilize technology to maximize the quality of our work. Our unique translation workflow and our proprietary technology are used to manage large translation teams more effectively, to minimize translation errors, to maximize quality and consistency across document types and large volumes of text, and to create translated output as quickly as possible. Our process comprises the following steps:
- Glossary and style guide creation
- Translation Profile Analysis (TPA)
- Text extraction and bilingual creation
- Text re-insertion and draft output file creation
- Semantic editing
- Layout editing (DTP)
- Generation and QA of final output files
All Elanex translation is done by people, not software. We use our server-based translation memory system, as well as other tools and technologies described below, to make the process more efficient, but actual translation is done by specialist native translators. Elanex technology enables our practitioners to focus on what they do best. By automating document processing and removing other ‘distractions’, we eliminate the need for our translators to become experts in specific software applications – they can simply focus on the actual translation.
A standard translation team will consist of a combination of:
- Translators (see Translation below)
- Editors (see Editing below)
- Project Managers
Every individual translation project is managed by a Project Manager that operates Elanex systems and manages the team. The PM builds the project team through the results of the Translation Profile Analysis (TPA) and Intelligent Practitioner Matching System (IPMS) described below.
Translation Profile Analysis (TPA)
A TPA is a definition of the basic characteristics of a source document/project. It is essential to correctly assess the content of a client’s source document(s) to assign the appropriate team and thereby assure that we produce high-quality work.
The TPA includes:
- Language pair and direction
- Subject type and level of subject difficulty
- Work type and level of work type difficulty
Elanex actively manages a network of over 35,000 translators and editors, covering 118 languages. Elanex translators and editors are:
- Native speakers of the target language
- Specialists in one or more subject areas (Elanex distinguishes approximately 100 different specialist subjects)
- Graded and qualified by Elanex initially and on an ongoing basis (see practitioners and quality)
All Elanex translations are viewed by at least two people – a translator and an editor. Editing is included as part of our standard translation pricing, which is not the case with many other translation companies.
All Elanex translations include editing as part of the translation price that is not the case with many other translation companies. Editing can also be performed on previously translated documents as a separate activity.
First, we should define the difference between proofreaders and editors and explain why Elanex uses editors and not proofreaders. A proofreader typically reads only the translated document to check grammar, punctuation, and similar production errors. An editor is a linguist that reviews the translated work in comparison with the source materials to ensure accuracy and consistency in use of language. A proofreader can insure that grammar is correct, but cannot identify an incorrect translation.
Elanex editors come from our team of approximately 250 ‘Certified Editors’. They are native in the target language, and have been certified by Elanex has having a high level of ability in the subject and language, and an ability to create and review high quality work.
Elanex can provide formatting services for all commonly used publishing formats, including PowerPoint, Word, Quark, InDesign, Framemaker, Illustrator, et al. in all languages we translate.
Native to Elanex core technology is the capability to return the translated document in the same file format and page formatting the source material was submitted without additional processing steps. Our translation platform can read/write directly to over 100 different file formats. Our file filters are being constantly updated to process the latest file formats. We can also work with hard copy and scanned documents and we can even customize our tools to work with your own unique formats if necessary.
